Bush advierte a países árabes: se están quedando sin petróleo

Una extraña advertencia, pero quizá genuina, a partir de que si esos países no hacen algo pronto serán un mayor caldo de cultivo para el fundamentalismo islámico, de migraciones másivas a Europa y de una gran inestabilidad para la viabilidad de Israel. Copio de The Scotman:

PRESIDENT George Bush yesterday told leaders of the oil-rich states of the Middle East that they must face up to a future without their precious hydrocarbons.

In a stark warning, he said their supplies were running out and urged them to reform and diversify their economies. The outgoing United States president told the World Economic Forum, meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, that it was time to "prepare for the economic changes ahead".

Y le pagarán a Francia por hacerlo 2 billones de libras, informa el Times de Londres. Un signo claro de que la era del petróleo está por terminar... y México? El IFAI niega el acceso a los estados financieros de Pemex, y el gobierno sigue exprimiendo 40 centavos de cada peso de su presupuesto de la empresa estatal, causando la virtual bancarrota de la petrolera, que ya ve su producción caer, como ocurren en Cantarel, Campeche...

MTV Arabia es lanzada al aire

Primero vendrá MTV Arabia, luego las mujeres podrán manejar autos y votar en Arabia Saudita. A ritmo de hip hop y de concursos, los jóvenes árabes están poco a poco pasando de una sociedad tradicional a una moderna sin darse cuenta.

El capitalismo enseña a la gente a eligir, y en los países que no son democráticos eso es importante. Las mujeres ya pueden votar en Qatar. MTV, Starbucks (un café moca alto con leche light por favor) están enseñando a eligir a millones.

No se sorprendan que dentro de poco Arabia Saudita permita a las mujeres conducir autos y sufragar...

La celebración en Arabia Saudita:

The 19-year-old Saudi woman was abducted by a gang of men wielding kitchen knives who took her to a farm where she was raped 14 times by her captors. Five men were arrested for the rape and given jail terms ranging from 10 months to five years by a panel of judges in the eastern Saudi city of Qatif, near the teenager's hometown.

But the judges also decided to sentence the young woman, identified only as "G," to 90 lashes. "G" was told by one of the judges that she was lucky not to have been given jail time. She said yesterday that she would appeal against her sentence.

The woman told the Saudi Gazette that she tried to commit suicide because of her ordeal and was beaten by her younger brother because the rape had brought shame on their family.

Y ahora no me digan que es etnocéntrico y occidental llamar a esto como bárbaro, que hay que respetar a todas las culturas por igual, aunque destruyan a la mujer y pisen sus derechos humanos...
